(UPDATE: adjusted some areas and added some more lighting for the blue areas as well as a fierce storm system around one of the shards.)

This piece is basically a different take on an older image of mine called Last Stand, a collaboration image I did with :iconmcchaz: . I was approached by the art director of Night Shade Books who wanted an image similar to Last Stand to put in there new book which is an Anthology showcasing the best Sci-Fi and Fantasy art of the year.

So this is what I got, it may undergo some minor changes yet but I like it so far so I have submitted for all to see.

I love the gold coloured canyon below and the shard infected planet above and the motion of the shards decending.Are these those crystal-like structures which destroy planets and become interstellar obstructions due to being photon absorbing?
