A network of planets orbiting a binary neutron star system whiteness the most powerful event in the known universe. A gamma ray burst, this burst was projected after the two neutron stars which have been spinning and orbiting each other at phenomenal speeds impacted one another, as a result they sent out a huge burst that tore through one of the larger planets in the system. Over the past years the system has sent out gamma ray bursts but usually small ones that have not had an impact on any of the planets in the system, but this time luck ran out.

UPDATE: changed the big shadow behind the smaller planet and changed the border to coincide better with the print, the wallpaper versions will be submitted later in a pack:

Here is my first large project piece of the new year and i thought id start with a bang.
This is also my entry to the sci-fi wallpaper contest which is why it has a pretty cool background border to fit the chosen resolution of the entry which is 1920x1200.

With this picture i was trying to keep a rather vivid colour pallet instead of my usual rather washed and de-saturated pallet.
The print of this piece has a much small border and title mainly cause as a print this large border wouldn't work well. Hope you like i had great fun making it and i will upload some other resolutions later on.

The wallpaper pack can be found here [link]

There are exploding planets, and EXPLODING PLANETS. This one definately belongs to the second group. Make sure to check out his gallery and give him a watch. (Featured by ^taenaron)

What a powerful piece.

I had read a phenomenon similar to this. Where a burst of two stars colliding sent out huge amounts of radiation waves with enough to literally blow off atmospheres off planets if not destroy them physically.

Have ye? I have not seen that many submissions yet!
