UPDATE: I have tweaked some of the building so they look more layered, I have also made the dark areas darker and the flames abit more vibrant. Also added some alien craft shooting and being shot at.
This is the first matte painting I have done which turned out well, it's part of my concept module course and shows a post-apocalyptic city in flames after the arrival of an alien race which enslaves the human race.
This looks really good, but the city doesn't seem to have much depth. The buildings sort of run into each other, rather than being in front of or behind other buildings. For example, right in the middle between the two closest tentacles (right above/behind the debris in the river), it looks like a collage, not a city. The short building seems to run right into the tall building behind and to the left of it.
It is definitely a wicked concept, but it looks really unrefined, like you were just pulling images of destroyed buildings/cities together and didn't finish blending them into a city.
It's a epic consept that you got here. I really like this picture. BUT (and there's always a BUT) the fires/flames on the building that is standing diagonally, seems to burn downwards. I'd love to see the other pictures as well ^^

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
