No stars, no planets, no nebulae, no space ships that's right just a giant dragon with giant guns and a few poor marines fighting it. Anyway this was inspired from many places, first being me wanting to try something new, the original image that started this piece was called "The Orthene T.REX" by Per Haagensen which is a giant T-REX armed with modern guns killing bugs, great stuff, so I thought I'd combine it with an old dragon design I came up with during A-Level art. Its my first attempt at a full digital painting, not a matte painting like my other non space related art. The infantry were painted by hand using custom brushes and looking at photos as a reference. The whole scene was inspired by the new transformers 2 trailer which was just a huge explosion fest. Anyway let me know what you think.
Superb job! The entire picture really conveys the feeling of that tired military corps and their seemingly fruitless efforts to bring down a mythical being that just so happens to be fused with a butload of guns. WOW! That's a mouthful!
Plot aside, your painting skills are great. The reflection of light on the helmet in the bottom left looks far from legit (in the good direction )
Anyhow, now for the constructive critique: I swear I've seen something like this before, just a dragon instead of a crazy dinosaur thing.
The awkward pose of the beast sort of messes up the flow, in my opinion and the entire upper third of the frame is blank, and crowded in the other 2 thirds. For this, your impact suffers.
Sorry about that, I just about hit the floor when I saw this. Your skills and mastrery of the elements of art and the principles of art are unprecidented.
I wish I could achieve this level of skill for in my own digital art and airbrushing...but I still feel I have a long ways to go...a really long way to go.
But regardless, I thought that I was reading a GameInformer and this was a preview of an upcoming game...If it were to come out I'd definatley buy it. LOL...
( I understand that this is an airbrush, and I airbrush so I know the level of difficulty putting a piece of this magnitude together and to edit it would probably mean a complete do over). But the only thing I'd change if at all possible would be the toes. They just seem a little weak...for a B.A. dragon the toes seem scrawny... I'd attempt to bulk them up. But you dont have to cause your the artist, it also may be incredibly difficult, and it's your choice.
Well, it's still amazing and jaw dropping. I look forward for more of your artwork... Keep up the amazing artwork.
Now this is badass, I feel sorry for the marines especially the one it's chasing.

If there were a grade higher than A, you would get it. lol
If there were one thing I could suggest, it would be make the blasts coming off of the dragons guns a little more defined. I don't know why, but i just like more definition on blues.
But thats just my opinion
